Caring for Your Timepiece

To understand how your specific model Pére de Temps watch functions, download the warranty manual HERE.

Automatic Mechanical Watches
Unlike quartz watches, a mechanical watch functions by a tightly wound spring and various gears and levers. Special attention and care must be given to your watch. When fully wound, your watch has an operating autonomy of 24 – 48 hours depending on the model. The accumulated power reserve enables the watch to run throughout the night. Nevertheless, if your watch has been left unused for several days it will stop. Before using it again, we suggest you wind it manually with about twenty clockwise turns of the crown to ensure that it will operate perfectly in all conditions. Also a watch left unused needs its time and date displays to be reset, before  putting on your wrist.

If you would like more information regarding mechanical watches and their care, we recommend reading this article from gearpatrol.com.

The top list of actions to avoid:

  • Avoid overwinding your watch.
  • Avoid setting the time backwards (counter-clockwise).
  • Avoid changing the date between 10 o’clock & 2 o’clock
  • Avoid wearing your watch while playing sports associated with high vibrations, such as golf, tennis, mountain biking.
  • Avoid any direct contact with products such as solvents / industrial or domestic detergents, as well as cosmetics and perfumes. They may damage the seals and alter the appearance of bracelets and cases.
